Update cached credentials in LAN or VPN

Hello Guys!!!

Today I am going to show you how you can update cached credentials in a system having Windows OS and running in Domain Environment.

Problem:- Domain account getting locked frequently because of old credentials.

Solution:- The solution to this problem is very simple. I will explain for both LAN Environment and VPN Environment.

1. Update Cached Credentials in office LAN:-

  • When you are in office and having LAN connectivity (i.e. having connectivity with your AD Server), Login to your profile, simply search "CMD" or "Notepad" in Start Menu, shift+right click on program icon and select "Run As Different User", if you are running Windows 7 OS. Then enter your domain credentials and press OK. That's it. Now your old saved credentials will be replaced with current credentials.
  • If you are running Windows 8/10 OS, then you will have to run CMD/Notepad normally, and then right click on icon in taskbar, again shift+right click on program icon from menu that opens from first right click, and the select "Run As Different User". Then enter your domain credentials and press OK. That's it. Now your old saved credentials will be replaced with current credentials.
2. Update Cached Credentials over VPN:-
  • First of all, after login to you profile, connect to your VPN client. When VPN Client is connected successfully, the you have to follow above steps for Windows 7, 8/10 respectively. Give a restart and login with "New Password".
